Willie “Bill” DeWayne Mathews, 82, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at his home in Grandview.
Bill was born November 12, 1938 in Sevierville, Tennessee to Samuel Isham Matthews and Eula Mae Lewelling Lawson Matthews. After he attended Sevier County High School, Bill enrolled in the Army. While in the Army he met Nancy Esther Olson and they married September 21, 1958 in Blue Island, Illinois. While working for Rock Island Railroad he and Nancy made the move to Texas. He could fix just about anything with duct tape, paper clips, and bungee cords. He was the master of Thanksgiving dressing and vegetable soup. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed. Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy; parents, Samuel Isham Matthews and Eula Mae Lewelling Matthews; 2 sisters, Marjorie Lawson Rose and Opal Lawson Balcome.

Lynn and her husband Edward of Alvarado; grandchildren, Patrick, Samuel, Nathan, Jessica, Kelly, Pike, Gage, Parrish, and Tansey; great-grandchildren, Veronica, Tera, Ethan, and Logan; brothers, Ernest Lawson and his wife Edna of Sevierville, Tennessee, Eddy Matthews and his wife Teresa of Sevierville, Tennessee, Robert Matthews and his wife Madlin of Sevierville, Tennessee; sisters, Patricia Gibson of Sevierville, Tennessee, Betty Gaylon and her husband Leonard of Seymour, Tennessee, Nancy Hammons of Bossier City, Louisiana, Sue Hardin of Sevierville, Tennessee, Sara Neil of Marrero, Louisiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
