Von “Larry” Bridges, age 83, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026. He was born on November 4, 1942, in DeSoto, Jefferson County, Missouri, to Elmer and Ellen (Hawkins) Bridges.
Larry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who lived a life defined by hard work, love for his family, and a deep appreciation for simple pleasures. He married the love of his life, Betty Bridges, and together they built a strong and lasting marriage. In Betty’s words, “they just always got along,” a testament to their enduring bond and partnership. The couple made their home in Alvarado, Texas. He was also a veteran of the United States Army.
A skilled residential painter and true “jack of all trades”. Outside of work, he found his greatest joy in woodworking and gardening. He had a special love for planting and pruning, and he took pride in nurturing flowers, vegetables, and trees. He loved being outside.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ellen Bridges; his children, Scarlet and Tony, his sisters, Sue, Jeanette, Jenice, Jean, Joan, and Deborah; his brothers, Melvin, Conrad, Melford, Quentin, and Robert.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Bridges; his children, Larry Bridges of DeSoto, Missouri, Jenise Bridges of Huntsville, Texas, Aaron Bridges of Bloomburg, Ohio, Jeff Owens of Blue Ridge, Texas, Leeland Owens of Burleson, Texas. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
