Visie Scarberry Obituary

On Thursday, May 13, 2021, Visie Mae Scarberry, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away at the age of 85.

Visie was born on January 11, 1936 in Brazos Point to Jessie and Lula Mears.  She received her high school education, graduating in 1956.  On June 15, 1956, she married the love of her life, Wando Henry Scarberry and raised two sons together, Doug and Steve.

Visie’s favorite place to be was with her family, making memories around her dinner table that will last a lifetime.  If there was any kind of event for her kids/grandkids, you can bet that she was in the front row watching with a big smile.  She enjoyed teaching her grandchildren the songs that she grew up singing and sitting on the couch listening to them read to her.

She was known for her kind, loving heart and she poured that into her community.  She was involved with Santa’s Helpers every year and could be found in the pavilion day and night during the Old Settler’s Reunion, supporting all of the local talent and making sure things ran smoothly.  She always had a smile to offer and a listening ear if it was needed, making her a true and loyal friend to many.

She is preceded in death by her father, Jessie Mears; mother, Lula Mears; sister, Delta; and brother, Arthur.  She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Wando Scarberry; her two sons; Doug Scarberry and his wife Robin of Alvarado, Steve Scarberry and his wife Shanna of Lometa; granddaughter, Sara Foster and husband Sean of Alvarado; 3 great grandchildren, Addyson, Aubrey and Cooper; sisters, Kathryn and LaVada; brothers, Walter and Jesse and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Glenwood Cemetery at a later date due to the rain.
