Vanita Ruth Schlegel

Vanita Ruth (Nelson) Schlegel passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024 at her home in Cleburne, TX.  Vanita was born July 27, 1942, in Paraloma, Arkansas to Dezzie and Eugene Nelson.

Vanita lived much of her life in Southwestern Kansas in the communities of Garden City, Liberal, and rural Finney County before moving to Cleburne, TX in 2005.

She is survived by her son Mike with wife Betty; son Vaughn (Merle) with wife Connie; brothers Jerry Nelson and Dennis Nelson; Grandchildren Stephen with wife Melanie and Lori Gable with husband Danny Gable; 3 Great Grandchildren, Ashlynn, Jackson, and Peter with one more to arrive soon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Doug Nelson and Charlie Nelson, and her husband Vernon.

A memorial service will be held at Sand Flat Baptist Church, 4216 E FM 4, Cleburne, TX 76031, Friday, July 26, at 9:00 am.
