Valentina Murphy Obituary

Valentina Sofia Murphy, D.D.S., age 90, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2021, into the arms of her Lord and Savior. She was born on September 11, 1930 in Habana, Cuba to the late Demetrio Valentin Sanchez and Herminia Fuentes.

One of Valentina’s favorite quotes was, “It is not who you are or where you have been; It is where you are going that counts,” by Carl Tarley. Valentina lived her life knowing exactly where she was going when she passed away. We know that at the moment she left this earthly home, she was made new and was welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father. As a family, we are rejoicing because she is finally Home. She spent her life telling everyone about her Lord and Savior and now she is experiencing Him face to face. She was also reunited with her first born daughter that she lost 5 years ago; we can only imagine the sheer joy of that reunion.

Valentina will always be remembered for the love she had for family. Even though towards the end she didn’t always remember their names, she remembered that they belonged to her, and she was proud of each one of them. She loved her family so much, but anyone who knows Valentina would tell you that above all else, she loved her Lord. She knew Him, she trusted Him, she had a deep and meaningful relationship with Him. It is no surprise that her favorite verse is Deuteronomy 6:5, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” When we would go to visit her, she always had her Bible sitting out. It wasn’t sitting out for decoration, it was wrinkled and worn from years of day to day use. She wanted to leave a rich legacy of faith for her family. She wanted everyone she came in contact with “to know the truth and to live a godly life.”

We grieve her passing because we will miss her and all of the joy she brought to our lives, but we grieve with hope because we know that she is home, and her legacy will continue long after she is gone. She taught her children about the Lord. They taught her grandchildren, and now her grandchildren are teaching her great grandchildren. She laid the foundation, set an example, taught us, led us, and loved us well. Her legacy is that she impacted not only the faith of this generation but the next as well. She will no longer be here to share God’s love, but those she impacted will do it in her place.

Valentina was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Yvonne Marie Hodges; and her sister, Herminia Baldor. She is survived by her children, Patrick Murphy and his wife Cathy; Dennis Murphy and his wife LeighAnn; GinaBlair and her husband Randy; Madalyn Hardgrave and her husband Jeff; her 18 grandchildren; and her 13 great grandchildren.
