On Monday, January 27, 2025, Susan Hunnicutt Smith, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the age of 74.
Susan was born on October 28, 1950, in Fort Worth, Texas to Harrell Joe and Betty Francis Hunnicutt. She attended R.L. Paschal High School and Texas Christian University. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from TCU with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Art History. She continued her studies and earned a Master of Arts degree in English. She used her passion for writing to raise awareness for many nonprofits in her community. She was an exceptional fundraiser leaving a footprint on the missions she served. She ended her career as the Director of Grants at Cancer Care Services.
There are not enough words to capture the breathtaking beauty of Susan’s character. We feel truly blessed to have Susan as the matriarch of our family, who instilled in us the strength and resilience to become compassionate human beings. Susan’s passions included the arts, nonprofit work, laughter, spreading joy, her beloved daughters, sons-in-law, and her grandchildren, whom she adored immensely and they lovingly referred to her as G-ma. She was wonderfully unique, with a vibrant personality that lit up a room. Her kindness and warmth touched everyone she met, even in her final hours. With her unique, eclectic style, Susan embodied class and humility, never taking herself too seriously. As a woman of unwavering conviction, she stood firmly by her principles exuding loyalty, graciousness, and quick wit. She carefully curated her inner circle, showering them with love, humor, and devotion. Her faith in the Lord remained unshakeable, inspiring her family to trust in God’s divine timing. Though her time with us was fleeting, Susan’s legacy reminds us that her unwavering faith has ushered her into eternal peace, where love and joy awaits.
Susan is survived by her daughters, Laurie Bonin Wade and her husband, Steve, Michelle Bonin Weeks and her husband, Dirk, and Andrea Bonin Rodriguez and her husband, Jesse; grandchildren (the loves of her life), Jackson Wade, Lola Wade, Reagan Weeks, Arden Weeks, Blake Rodriguez, and Max Rodriguez; sister, Nancy Hunnicutt Shea and her husband, Robert; nieces, Kelly Carvino and her husband, Rich and their son, Brady, and Kristi King; stepfamily, Katy Smith Brantley and her husband, Kris and their children, Bailey, Konnor, Brynn, Keller and Bowen, and Adam Smith and his wife, Raevyn.
Susan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Royse “Butch” Smith; parents, Harrell Joe and Betty Hunnicutt.
The family is having a private graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life for family and friends at Ridglea Country Club on February 13, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
