Sandra Horton Obituary

Sandra Lou (Sheets) Horton, 76, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2023 in Fort Worth, Texas after battling a long-term heart disease.

Sandra (a.k.a. "MeMaw") dedicated her professional career to Texas public education. Many would have remembered her as Ms. Moore. She retired from Alvarado ISD in 1998 where she had worked since 1969. She was also an alumna of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth where she earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees and was always proud to be a Horned Frog.

After marrying Curtis Horton on February 22, 1999, Sandra left her Texas roots and relocated to Missoula, Montana where she discovered a newfound passion in archery.

With the help of her coach (Curtis), she went on to excel in archery, winning 15 National Championships and a Champion of the Americas title setting many records in the process.

Sandra and Curtis returned to Texas in September 2007 and moved to Cleburne. They enjoyed spending time with family and friends while also teaching the sport of archery to others.

Sandra is proceeded in death by both of her parents, Jimmie Frank and Bobbie Sheets of Grandview; and brother, Jim Sheets of Fort Worth. She is survived by her husband Curtis; son Derik and wife, Karla, of Grandview; stepdaughter April Horton of Seeley Lake, Montana; brother-in-law Dwain Horton and wife, Lisa, of Austin; brother-in-law Don Alsbrooks and wife, Dianne, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sister-in-law Ann Sheets of Fort Worth; and sister-in-law Eleisa Petroff and husband, Tom, of Missoula, Montana. Granddaughters Kennedy Moore of Fort Worth and Alexa Moore of Grandview; Mickol and Shayla Rathbun of Seeley, Montana; and grandson Aaron Tuma of Glendive, Montana. Also, four great-grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and beloved family members.

Sandra was thankful for the many friends she had made throughout the course of her life - especially the thousands of students she had the privilege of teaching in Alvarado.
