Rhonda Upchurch, 55, passed away peacefully in her home on November 25, 2023. She was born October 16, 1968, to James Henry II and Debra Hilton (Baxter).
Rhonda was preceded in death by her father, James Henry II; stepfather, Dene Baxter; sisters Rachel Brewer, Michelle Billberry, and Rebecca Brown. She is survived by her mother, Debra Baxter; siblings, Regina Holland, James Henry III, and Tana Henry; husband, David Upchurch; children, Heather Upchurch, David and Bonnie Upchurch, Jesse and Ashlie Upchurch, and Nicholas and Abby Upchurch; 9 grandchildren, and numerous adopted children that claimed her as their own.
Rhonda moved from Woodville to north Texas as a teen, where she met her husband, David. They raised their children together in Alvarado, Texas. Rhonda was always willing to open her home to those in need. Over the course of her life, she allowed over a dozen people, including full families, to stay in her home in times of difficulty.
Rhonda’s work ethic was unparalleled. She was dedicated to her business, spending weeks at a time out of state ensuring that her customers were taken care of. She was relentless in all her endeavors, working just as hard at finding diamonds in Arkansas or making sure that her grandbabies had too many presents under the Christmas tree as she did at running her business. Rhonda loved to gamble and to garden. She felt most at home outdoors, camping and fishing or visiting the coast with her family. She enjoyed crafting, cooking, and finding good deals. She sacrificed so much to give her children a better life and was incredibly proud of each of them.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, Rhonda continued to live life to the fullest, trying to chase as many of her dreams as she could. Doctors predicted that she would live two to five years, but she lived eight and a half. She never gave up her hope for a cure, and never let the sickness slow her down. She was a fighter to her last breath.
Rhonda’s family invites you to celebrate her life at the Full Gospel Tabernacle at 1010 S Parkway Dr., Alvarado, Texas for visitation on Friday, 12/1/2023 at 6:00 pm. Memorial services will take place at the Full Gospel Tabernacle on Saturday, 12/2/2023 at 2:00 pm.
