Peggy Griggs Obituary

Peggy Charlene (Shelton) Griggs passed away December 7, 2021 from heart complications.

She was born November 19, 1937 in Alvarado, Texas to parents Robert Kenneth and Dimple (Henson) Shelton.  She grew up in Cleburne, Texas and graduated from Cleburne High School.

Peggy married David Griggs of Alvarado in 1958; they relocated to Phoenix, Arizona in 1960.

She was an accomplished classically trained pianist and loved playing the classical composers on her Wurlitzer piano.

In the 1960s and 1970s she raised and groomed Poodles, Peggy’s favorite dog breed.

She retired from Mervyn’s department store where she enjoyed working, meeting new people, and making lasting friendships.

Peggy was a published poet, winning several poetry awards from the World of Poetry and was honored as a Golden Poet.

She enjoyed several activities: cooking, decorating, sewing clothes, making soap, and watercolor painting. Peggy will be dearly missed by her husband of 63 years, David M. Griggs, daughter Marcia Dawn Griggs, granddaughter Lindsay (Brundage) Petersen and her husband, Brady C. Petersen of Houston.  She also leaves behind a brother-in-law, Dale Griggs and his wife, Jolynn of Fort Worth, as well as several nephews, nieces, cousins, and many precious friends she held close to her heart.

Peggy will be laid to rest at Glenwood Cemetery in Alvarado, Texas.  There will be no service.

She will forever be remembered for her loving kindness, giving spirit, and creative mind.

Psalm 23:6

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

All the days of my life;

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord

Forever.
