Larry Russell Obituary

On January 18, 2022, Larry Daniel Russell of Alvarado, Texas, went to be with the Lord. Larry passed away at his home in Alvarado, Texas. Larry was born July 19, 1943 in Sherman, Texas. Larry was born to R.D. Russell and Julia Burnett who preceded him in death. Larry was also preceded in Death by his sister Rejonna Ann Adamson of Waxahachie, Texas. Larry was born with a “James Dean” attitude towards life. In his younger days Larry loved fast cars and tough guy movies. He loved working with his hands and had the ability to fix just about anything. He was a self-taught master carpenter. Larry could build anything from fine furniture to enormous houses and always enjoyed working hard. If you’re going to be a tough guy with fast cars you need a pretty girl to complete the persona, so on October 17th, 1963, Larry married Jettie Sue “Sue” Shockley of Grand Prairie, Texas. Larry and Sue were married for 59 years, and they were the love of each other’s lives. Over the years Larry traded in his “tough guy” exterior and became instead a smiling, gentle soul who loved everybody he met. He never stopped being a “tough guy” on the inside though. In-spite of failing health, chronic severe pain, and multiple surgeries, he never stopped going. Larry was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. In addition to helping others, Larry provided loving care for Sue while he acted as the primary caregiver to his devoted wife. Ironically, while always willing to help others, Larry refused to ever ask for help himself out of concern of putting someone else out. He was a favorite in his neighborhood because of his cheerful personality and consistent helping hand. It was sometimes difficult to watch Larry move around, and his pain was obvious, but he never complained and just forged ahead with a smile on his face. Larry is survived by his wife Jettie Sue Russell and two Brothers Robert Dennis Russell of Bay City, Texas and Tommy Roy Russell of Maybank, TX. Larry is survived by their son Larry Dewayne Russell his wife Kenya Ann McKinney of Woodland Park, Colorado, and daughter Christy Lynn Russell and Husband Sammie James Baker II of Ft. Mill, South Carolina, Six Grandchildren, Kaylyn Ann Rickert, Austin Dewayne Russell, Sarah-Anne Leilani Adkins, Whitny Shane Adkins, Camden Daniel Russell and Allison Danielle Adkins and two Great Grandchildren Cooper Brayton Rickert and Archer Dean Rickert.
