John Sosa Jr., age 91, passed away at his home in Fort Worth, Texas, on Monday, February 2, 2026.
John was born in Dallas, Texas, to John Sosa Sr. and Ygnacia Montez. He grew up during a time when segregation was a harsh and painful reality—when there were restrooms he was forbidden to use, water fountains he could not drink from, and seats on the bus he was not allowed to occupy simply because he was Mexican American. He carried those memories throughout his life, not with bitterness, but with wisdom and perspective. John often expressed deep gratitude for having lived long enough to witness meaningful change in the world, knowing firsthand how much harder life once was.
A hardworking and devoted provider, John spent more than 30 years working as a foreman at a door company. He took great pride in his work, his responsibilities, and in caring for his family. His strong work ethic, perseverance, and sense of duty reflected the quiet strength that defined his life.
John is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Sosa; his son, Mark Sosa; his daughters, Julie Solomon, Tammy Cooper, and Crystal Pocasangre; as well as 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Dolores Salas and Consuelo Cuello, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
He also carried in his heart his children Rene, Dianna, and Jeffrey, who were separated from him by life’s circumstances, holding them always in his thoughts and love.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Sosa Sr. and Ygnacia Montez, and by his siblings Richard Sosa, June Rodriguez, and Aurora.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Clayton Kay Vaughn Funeral Home in Alvarado, Texas. Following the service, there will be a procession to Glenwood Cemetery, where John will be laid to rest.
Lunch will be provided afterward for anyone who would like to join.
