Joe Tackett Obituary

Joe Neil Tackett, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on February 28, 2025, joining his son, Tobby Joe, in Heaven on his birthday. A pillar of his community, Joe was known for his generosity, leadership, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends.

On June 19, 1964, Joe married the love of his life, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and devotion. A wonderful husband of over 60 years, he was also a loving brother, a marvelous dad, and a devoted grandfather. His grandchildren were the highlight of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He loved tinkering, traveling, and sharing coffee with friends, always finding joy in life's simple pleasures.

Joe proudly served in numerous roles throughout his life;  Eagle Scout, a Master Mason for over 50 years, a volunteer youth leader for the United Methodist Church for over 20 years, a peewee coach for football, baseball, and soccer, President of the Youth Association, President of the Athletic Booster Club, Johnson County Water Board and President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce twice. His passion for youth sports extended beyond coaching. He worked tirelessly at the Quarter Horse Show, raising funds to support athletic programs. When the Charles Head high school football field was completed, he, along with his father, Raymond, and Billie Frank Parnell, built the flagpole that still stands today.

A true community leader, Joe was deeply involved in the Boy Scouts and served as a volunteer fireman for nearly 20 years. When his children were in school, he selflessly provided transportation for the band and jazz band, ensuring that students could participate even when funds were unavailable. As a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Alvarado, he served in various roles, including the board and finance committee, always answering the call to serve where needed.

A hardworking businessman, Joe successfully operated a heavy equipment business for over 50 years and owned a car wash. Despite his many commitments, he never missed his daily coffee breaks with friends at the drug store and Whataburger —a cherished tradition that brought him great joy. If a friend or neighbor needed anything, Joe was always there to lend a helping hand. His greatest love was his family—his devoted wife, his children, and his two special grandsons and God-grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Sarah Tackett, his son, Tobby Joe Tackett, and his two brothers, Jimmy and Harold Tackett. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; his son, Terry, and daughter-in-law, Amy Tackett; his grandsons, Troy Tackett and Toby Tackett; and his sisters-in-law, Audrey Tackett and Priscilla Tackett and a host of nieces and nephews.

Joe's legacy of kindness, service, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered.
