Hugh Duane Nixon of Alvarado, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 25 th , 2020
after a fatal car accident. Hugh was born on March 27 th , 1949 to Eva Agnes (Howard) Nixon and Jasper
Marion Nixon in Menard, Texas. He was an active member of the Clyde FFA and graduated in 1967 from
Clyde High School. He married Carol Ann Pittman June 20 th , 1969. He graduated Tarleton State College
with a degree in Agricultural Science in 1971.
Hugh was an Agricultural Science Teacher in Tappahannock, Virginia; Mansfield, Texas; and Alvarado,
Texas for a total of 30 years. He touched many lives as an Ag teacher. There are hundreds of his former
students that are currently supporting their families using skills taught to them by Mr. Nixon. A direct
quote from a student, “God brought this man into my life when I truly needed him the most. Not only
was he my Ag teacher, he truly was a father figure and helped mold me to become the man I am today.”
Hugh was a member of Alsbury Baptist Church in Burleson, Texas.
Hugh was proceeded in death by his parents; brother Marion Evan Nixon; brother Shane Carlin Nixon;
brother Phil Edward Nixon; and great-grand daughter Kora Livia Ryan.
Hugh is survived by his loving wife Carol; daughter Tracie Morris and husband Craig of Covington, TX.;
daughter Dixie Ryan and husband Tom of Burleson, TX.; son Chris Nixon and wife Kayla of Joshua,TX.;
son Trey Nixon of Alvarado,TX.; son Myron Britt and wife Juanita of Abilene, TX.; and 14 grandchildren
with one on the way and one great-grandchild on the way, and a sister, Sheila Portwood and husband
Brian of Joshua, TX. and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed. Wherever he was, there were smiles and laughter. He was quite a character.
Hugh was very giving and loving to others. He never passed a stranded car on the side of the road that
he didn’t stop to help.
