Glenda Charline Phillips, of Venus & Alvarado, TX Passed away on October 17, 2025, at the age of 80 surrounded by her loved ones.
Glenda was born on February 28, 1945, in Fort Worth to James Lee and Annie Euline Burgess. The family lived in Venus, where she graduated as valedictorian of the Venus High School Class of 1963.
She had a deep love for life, her family, and her friends. A passionate sports enthusiast, she especially enjoyed golf, girls’ basketball, and cheering on her two great-grandsons as they played the game she loved. Always generous and kind-hearted, she never hesitated to help anyone in need.
She served as the school secretary in Venus for several years, then worked as the bank president’s secretary at banks in both Joshua and later Alvarado, where she met her late husband, Charlie Phillips. She went on to become the librarian at Alvarado Junior High School, a position she held for 15 years before retiring.
Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Charlie, and her nephew.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Rhonda Martin and her partner Cindy, and Stephanie Atkins and her husband Kenny; her granddaughter, Ashley Hines and her husband Jacob, great-grandsons, Peyton and Jackson Hines; granddaughter Delayna Williams and her husband Zach; great-granddaughters Kenleigh and Zoey Williams; her sister, Joan Marie Woods and her husband Don; her brother, James Lee Burgess and his wife Sherri; as well as three nephews and their families, and an uncle and his wife.
