Georgean McFarland Byars

Georgean McFarland Byars, 78, of Grandview, passed away December 3, 2022. Georgean was born in Waco, Texas to Joe Morris and Josephine (Christopher) McFarland. She was an only child and grew up in Waco, Texas. She later earned a bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston University and worked as a librarian and in bookstores.  Georgean married her high school sweetheart in 1966, Eldon James (Jim) Byars and they celebrated 51 years of marriage. The couple had two children Samantha and Shelley. They enjoyed motorcycles and traveling.

Georgean is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jim Byars.

Those left to cherish Georgean’s memory are her daughters, Samantha Coats and Shelley Byars; grandchildren, Landyn Byars, Samuel Coats, Charlie Coats, Jace Coats, and her brother-in-law, Colin and Laureen Byars, and cousins Jack and Laura Ellen Brady.  

A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 7 from 6-8 pm at the Clayton Kay Vaughan Funeral Chapel in Alvarado, Texas. The internment will follow on December 9th at 9 am at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Jim.
