Earlene Leonard Cherry, 93, of Alvarado, Texas gained her heavenly promotion on August 27, 2024. Earlene was born in Alvarado, Texas on September 6, 1930 to Earl and Madlene Leonard. She is survived by her six children and their families; Elaine Cherry, Doug Cherry, Laurie and husband John McIntosh, Carol and husband Daniel Ward, Steve and wife Edwina Cherry and Tim and wife Ellen Cherry. Her family also includes 14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Additional survivors include brothers, James and wife Donna, Robert and wife Cherith, sister, Anna Singleton and sisters-in-law, Edna Leonard and Janice Leonard.
Family members that preceded her in death are: her parents, Earl and Madlene Leonard, husband, Lewis Cherry, daughter-in- law Rose Cherry and grandson Liam, brother Bennie Leonard, Glenn Leonard, sisters Mary Rice and Linda Dennis.
Earlene was the eldest of 8 children and at an early age she not only helped her parents but also took on the job of taking care of her younger siblings. At age 18 she married Lewis Cherry of Mansfield Texas and they began their married life together in Alvarado Texas. Earlene was a dedicated homemaker, excellent cook, loving mother and a faithful servant at Thompson Baptist Church for more than 70 years. She taught Sunday School, vacation bible school and was church treasurer along with her husband, Lewis.
Her passions in life were serving God, her husband and her family. Generations to come will remember and honor her legacy. Her other interests were gardening, supporting and cheering on her children and grandchildren and following the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns.
She was a tireless worker, faithful believer and the most wonderful mother and friend to her family.
She will be greatly missed.
