In Loving Memory of Debra Lucretia (Sims) Wheat
Born on June 2, 1958, and lived a full life through February 15, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom Debra “Lucretia” (Sims) Wheat, who peacefully left this world on February 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Lucretia was born on June 2, 1958 in Springfield, IL to Richard Sims and Lucretia MacWithey. From a young age, she demonstrated kindness, resilience, and a remarkable ability to bring people together. She married Johnnie Wheat of Dallas Tx. in April 1st, 1977.
Lucretia was a devoted wife, Mom, Granni, sister and friend who cherished time spent with her family. She found great joy in quilting, an affinity for cars both new and old, traveling to new places, and immersing herself in music. Her generosity, strong faith in God and unwavering optimism were hallmarks of her personality. Whether she was sharing her handcrafted quilts, attending car shows, planning her next adventure, singing along to her favorite songs, or giving one of her famous hugs, Lucretia embraced every moment with enthusiasm and warmth.f
Lucretia is survived by her husband of 47 years, Johnnie Wheat, and their sons: Jacob Wheat, his wife Nicole, and their daughter Marissa; Donnie Wheat, his wife Angela, and their two children Ethan and Evelyn; and Ross Wheat, and his children Julie, Aedan, Jocelyn, and Abram—with their mother, Hannah Shreve, a cherished part of the extended family; and her sister Cathy Johnson, her husband Donel Johnson. She is also survived by her Aunt Mary; brother-in-law Donnie Wheat, his wife Kelly; sister-in-law Cindy Wheat; and sister-in-law Paula Wilson, her husband Rick. They will all honor her memory and carry on her legacy of love and kindness. She was preceded in death by her mom, Lucretia MacWithey and her dad Richard Sims.
Those who were fortunate enough to know Lucretia remember her as full of love, laughter, and a bit of feistiness! She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel valued and heard. Her enduring spirit, gentle guidance, and caring nature left a lasting impression on friends, family, and those around her.
A visitation for Lucretia will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Clayton Kay Vaughan Funeral Home (200 East Patton Avenue, Alvarado, Texas 76009).
A memorial service celebrating Lucretia’s life will follow on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Fellowship (2801 Orchid Drive, McKinney, Texas 75070). We invite those who loved Lucretia to join us in honoring her life, sharing stories, and offering comfort as we remember the joy and light she brought to us all.
