Charles Gard Obituary

Charles was the only child born to Samuel Fletcher Gard and Tressie Mae Major in Fort Worth, Texas on April 12, 1933.  Charles married the love of his life Eula Ruth Arthur on September 4, 1954.  Charles peacefully went to be with the Lord on December 1, 2021 in Plano, Texas at the age of 88.

Charles attended Lee Summit and Itasca schools.  He was a graduate of Itasca High School, the John Tarleton Agricultural College (now known as Tarleton State University), and the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (now known as Texas A&M University).  He proudly served in the United States Army.  He taught school in Yorktown, Texas and worked for the Stewart Company. He then embarked on a distinguished career with the Ford Motor Company which spanned nearly three decades.

Charles enjoyed his retirement years by being able to travel, going camping, and doing wood working projects. He loved his family, the farm, Texas A&M University, and most of all his Lord.  Charles was a devoted servant at Beall Chapel Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Texas and Spring Baptist Church in Spring, Texas.

Charles’ family would like to thank all of you for the prayers, love, and kindness you have shown to Charles throughout this journey. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife of nearly sixty-four years, Ruth and his parents Samuel Fletcher Gard and Tressie Mae Major Gard.  Charles is survived by daughter Sherry Guice and husband Terrel, daughter Deborah Oberle and husband Randy, granddaughter Lauren Sullivan and husband Michael, grandson Brent Guice, granddaughter Morgan Wagner and husband Parker, great granddaughter Caroline Sullivan, great grandson William Sullivan, great granddaughter Samantha Sullivan and many nieces and nephews.
