Continental Airlines Captain Brian D. Nichols passed away and flew his final flight west on February 7, 2022, at the age of 79. Brian was raised in Purvis, Mississippi and was a proud member of the student body at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. He began his flying career as a civilian flight instructor for the United States Air Force. In 1966, Brian was hired by Trans-Texas Airways flying Douglas DC-3s and ended his storied career with Continental Airlines flying the Boeing 777.
Brian was kind to everyone he met. He loved to talk about flying and even taught a free ground school to help the local pilot community. As an avid reader and continual learner, Brian owned multiple businesses and wrote computer code for small businesses. If Brian wasn’t talking about flying, he was bragging about his four loving children.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and A.D. Nichols of Purvis, Mississippi, and his sister Jane Slade of Gulfport, Mississippi. He is survived by sister Marilyn McMahon (Curtis) of Purvis, Mississippi; sister Karen Nichols of Iowa City, Iowa; former spouse Barbara Nichols of Conroe, Texas; and his four children: Lori Weber (Jim) of Grapevine, Texas; Rene Dean (Randy) of Bedias, Texas; Jennifer Jansen (Jared) of Montgomery, Texas; and Brian Nichols, Jr. (Julie) of Tiburon, California; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and many dear friends.
The family would like to extend its gratitude to the staff at Alvarado Meadows Nursing Home & Rehabilitation in Alvarado, Texas, for their care.
Graveside services will be held February 14, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery in Alvarado, Texas.
