Billy Joe Boyd, age 89, of Alvarado, passed away on July 14, 2023. He was born on September 17, 1933, in Alvarado, to Lyman and Estelle B. (Dillehay) Boyd.
Billy's journey began in the Cahill community, where he attended school before continuing his education at Alvarado High School. He graduated in the class of 1950.
After completing his studies, Billy worked at several odd jobs before joining Alvarado Oil in June 1951. He worked there until June 1954 where he displayed a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence. Billy was drafted into the U.S. Army on June 10, 1954. Billy completed his active-duty service on April 4, 1956. During his active-duty service, he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Billy subsequently received an honorable discharge after fulfilling his duties in the U. S. Army Reserve, officially ending his service on May 31, 1962.
In the fall of 1956, Billy embarked on a new venture, establishing a successful dairy business alongside his father Lyman until he retired in April 1998. Following his retirement from the dairy business, Billy turned his attention to raising stocker cattle, a pursuit that brought him great joy until his passing.
On August 22, 1953, Billy Joe Boyd married his beloved wife, Pauline F. "Polly" (Robertson) Boyd, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Together, they shared 56 years of marriage and created a loving home in Alvarado. Polly preceded Billy in death on December 23, 2009, leaving behind cherished memories that would forever reside in Billy’s heart.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents Lyman and Estelle Boyd.
Survivors remaining include his son Joe Paul and wife Belinda Boyd of Alvarado, grandchildren Christina and Dustin McGrath of Richardson, great-grandchildren Grace and Lane McGrath, one niece and two nephews.
Funeral services to honor and celebrate Billy Joe Boyd's life will be held at the Cahill Methodist Church in Alvarado on Saturday, July 22, at 10 am. Following the service, Billy will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife, Polly, and his parents at Glenwood Cemetery.
Prior to the funeral, a visitation will take place on Friday, July 21, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Clayton Kay Vaughan Funeral Home, providing an opportunity for friends and loved ones to pay their respects.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Cahill Methodist Church, a church family close to Billy's heart.
