Obituary for Betty Jane (DeWitt) Bain

Betty Jane (DeWitt) Bain, age 87, passed away peacefully in her home in Alvarado, Texas on June 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on November 3, 1938, in Cooper, Texas, to Mack Lawrence DeWitt and Emma Mollyline (Gilliam) DeWitt.

On December 29, 1955, Betty married the love of her life, Gideon Wesley “G.W.” Bain, in Hugo, Oklahoma. Together they shared over 70 years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and unwavering devotion to one another.

Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother whose greatest joy came from her family. She is survived by her daughter, Julie Bain-England of Alvarado, Texas; her daughter, Margie and Tommy Seymore of Lubbock, Texas; her son, Scott and Gayla Bain of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren Darra, Kristen, Hannah, Chasta, Alicia, Mitch, and Matthew; and 17 great-grandchildren. Betty also deeply loved and treasured her extended family of nieces and nephews and took great pride in watching generations of her family grow and thrive.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gideon Wesley “G.W.” Bain; her parents, Mack and Emma DeWitt; her son-in-law, Don England; and her six siblings.

Throughout her life, Betty was known for her kindness, strength, and servant’s heart. She was a devoted partner to G.W. in every chapter of their lives. Betty dedicated 25 years of service to Alvarado High School before retiring. She took pride in her work, the students and staff she served, and the friendships she built throughout her career.

Betty’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and family. Her warm smile, gentle spirit, and steadfast support touched the lives of all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, resilience, and unconditional love that will continue to inspire future generations.

A graveside service and interment will be held at Peerless Cemetery in Peerless, Texas, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.

Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
