Bernice Woods Obituary

Bernice Woods, 100, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus at sunrise on January, 29, 2021 in Arlington, Texas.

She was born in Grandview, Texas on February, 9, 1920 and raised there. She worked hard all her life, including 25 years for A&P Grocery in Oak Cliff, Texas. She took her greatest joy from her family, was an excellent cook, and took great pride in treating them to her legendary homemade chocolate pies - no family gathering was complete without them! At the age of 90 she was walking thirty minutes a day on the treadmill to help "take her exercise". She took great delight in reaching her 100th birthday, and was eleven days short of 101. She was even featured as one of the centenarians on the NBC Today Show.

Bernice was the loving mother of two daughters, Darla K. Williams Morrison, married to Jack Morrison II, and Kimberly Denice Fairchild, all of Arlington, Texas.

Her grandchildren are Robert Edward Looper and wife, Eden of Weatherford, Texas; Russel Norman Pharr and wife, Anastasia of Dallas, Texas; Alexander Jarrett Fairchild and Jon Gray Morrison, both of Arlington, Texas; and Jack Morrison III and wife Nicole, of Wisconsin.

Great-grandchildren are Jordan Maxwell O'Neal, Sydney Olivia Looper, Robert Alden Looper, Mora Elena "L" Pharr, Nathan William Pharr, Emery Xzya Morrison, Marayah Naveah Morrison, and Jackson William Morrison.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William T. and Claudia Etta Smith Taylor, six brothers, Alton, Edward, Casto Thurman, Chester Newton, Rayborn Arnold, Talmadge, and four sisters, Dera Lee, Isabelle May, Violet Marie and Audra Jewel.

Bernice was a devoted and faithful servant to the Lord Jesus Christ and a life-long member of the First Baptist Church in Grandview.

Graveside service will be held at 2 pm Thursday, February 4, 2021, at Grandview Cemetery, FM 4, Grandview, Texas. Bernice requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to First Baptist Church, POB 454, Grandview, TX 76050
