James Hoffman Obituary

James Owen Hoffman, 91 years old, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, August 9,2018 at Heritage Trails Nursing Home in Cleburne, Texas.

 

Funeral services for James will be held at the Clayton Kay Vaughan Funeral Home located at 200 E. Patton Avenue, Alvarado, Texas, on Saturday August 18 at 10 am.  The family will be available for visitation from 9 to 10 am at the Clayton Kay Vaughan Funeral Home.  Immediately following the service, burial will be at the Glenwood Cemetery located on old US Highway 81 in Alvarado.  There we will gather to lay his earthly body to rest.

 

James Owen Hoffman was born on November 28, 1926, in Mullin, TX (Mills County), the eldest son of James L. and Mary Hoffman.  He married Marja Lee Gray on November 8, 1954, in Fort Worth, TX.  He  is survived by his daughter, Kathy Gray, of  Arkansas;  son John and wife Shelia Gray of Alvarado, TX; 4 grandchildren: Larry Gray, Michael and wife Jennifer Gray, all of Russellville, AR; Jamie and wife Amy Gray of San Antonio, TX; Jana and husband Jeremy Davis of Ramstein, Germany; 7 great-grandchildren:  Aaryn Gates; Derrick Gray; Darby, Casey, and Emily Gray; and Joshua and Caleb Davis.  He is also survived by two sisters—Beulah    Dannelley of Abilene, TX, and Nancy Allen of Whitney, TX; and one brother, Billie Hoffman also of Whitney, TX.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Marja Hoffman; a granddaughter, Theresa Gayle Gray; grandson, Gary Dewayne Gray; daughter-in-law,   Rosella “Marie” Gray; son, Clayborn Ray Gray; two brothers—Charles and Ralph Hoffman; and his mother and father.

 

James was a life-long member of First Assembly of God in Alvarado and served as a deacon and board member for many years.  He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.  After the war, he used his GI Bill and trained for heating and air conditioning job skills.  He retired from a life’s  career as a controls system specialist; and was a life-long member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters  Union during that time.  During his life’s career, he worked on many commercial and government buildings all throughout Texas.  He was also a rancher in Alvarado for 60 years.  He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, husband, and father who his children loved dearly.  He will be greatly missed.
